This Potomac renovation provided the client with a luxurious upgrade to their lifestyle. The design blended their goals for the maximum use of space while adding beauty and comfort. The project also required cost engineering to provide an affordable yet aesthetically pleasing result for their family.

One significant element of the design was to create a bright and spacious master bedroom suite. This was accomplished by a modest addition that blends seamlessly with the home’s architectural style. As an example, the designers included an exterior decorative brick inset that can also be seen on the main home. Matching the existing slate roof and brick exterior detailing ensured architectural continuity.

The master bedroom features a vaulted ceiling that enhances the sensation of spaciousness and light in the room. An inviting window seat spans the width of the curved elliptical window with a view of the yard. Master closets offer dual walk-ins, one with a center island and shoe shelves, and the other with a fold-down ironing board. The floorplan of the master bath is anchored by a sculpted freestanding tub centered on a large triple window unit. The oversized marble floor tiles are also found on the walls of the steam shower. The sink vanity features a high marble backsplash with elegantly tapered side splashes. A separate makeup counter is illuminated by both recessed and wall sconce lighting.

Designers transformed the original master bedroom and bath into a private library and home office finished with quarter-sawn oak paneling. The library’s beamed ceiling continues the rich wood tone established in the bookshelves, lower cabinetry, and wood-paneled fireplace completing the full effect.
