This Bethesda home had a screened porch that was dark and unappealing. The homeowners asked us to take it down and design “an outdoor family room that we’ll use a lot.” They felt they did not use their patio enough and wanted a better connection to the outdoors. Their new porch addition was designed to be an extension of the dining room. Now, when they entertain, guests naturally move from the table to the outdoor sitting area at the end of a meal. And, the clients say they enjoy a lot of “every day” time in the porch addition. It is the perfect spot to settle with a book or have a quiet time. They say that they spend more time outdoors now than than ever before.
