The owners wanted an updated space in this 19 foot wide, 100-year-old Craftsman style home. Since rear expansion was impossible, the designers reconfigured the existing space. The kitchen was flipped to the opposite wall to improve the flow from the foyer to the rear living room. Next they widened doors, added windows, replaced swing doors with pocket doors, and added built-ins for storage and display. The two-tiered island provided the cooking area and kitchen seating as well as a visual boundary to the kitchen.     Photographer: Kenneth Wyner
