Having young children, functionality was our clients’ top priority.  They needed additional kitchen space with room for backpacks and sports equipment, but they also wanted to preserve backyard space. The addition had to be efficient, not big. Relocating the powder room, adding a modest addition, and reconfiguring the appliances created space for a small island and mudroom.  The window above the counter increased natural light and, most importantly, generated a vista to watch the children play.  Wrapping the addition with natural stones seamlessly blended the new with the existing exterior.                                                           Photographer: Morgan Howarth
