KITCHENS

Entire kitchen

This kitchen was part of a two-story addition to a 30’s colonial that included a great room, dining alcove and significant alterations throughout the existing main floor of the house.

Problems

The clients wanted to be able to entertain family & friends at their home but the galley kitchen was unable to serve large groups. Storage and counter space—for everyday use—was barely adequate.
The kitchen lacked beauty.

Solutions

The clients asked that drama be the guiding aesthetic principle. Following that directive, designers made use of corbels, carvings, chamfered edges, raised paneling, three-piece crown, dentil molding and a tray ceiling with chandelier.

The new kitchen was designed to be entirely open—easy to set up & serve for catered parties—yet comfortable for everyday use.

With catered parties in mind, the island was designed to double as a buffet and service counter.

Two-thirds of the old kitchen area was turned into a service bar tucked conveniently between the new kitchen and the old dining room—which was changed into an intimate lounge.
