KITCHENS

Kitchen

Our client has trouble getting around due to pain in her hips and knees. She asked us to modify the first floor plan –specifically the kitchen- in such a way as to minimize her need to move around.

Top of the list for this project were:

  1. a larger kitchen with two prep areas
  2. a room that was light, clean, stream-lined, contemporary
  3. as much natural light as possible into the room
  4. an efficient layout that would minimize the need to move around
  5. the warm look of wood--but contemporary & light-toned--no fussy moldings or raised panels

The existing family room was much larger than the client needed it to be. So we removed a wall (see drawings)—which allowed the kitchen to expand and introduced natural light into the space. We also carved a few feet off of the original family room to relocate the powder room.

The designer achieved a clean contemporary look with flat panel natural maple cabinets, reeded glass doors & cabinet fronts. “Flyover” trim above the range and suspended glass shelving at the wall sink contribute to the feeling of lightness and openness requested by the client.
