KITCHENS

2005 Finalist Award Residential Kitchen Over $100,000

The existing footprint of this kitchen did not allow clearance for circulation around a proposed center island. architect Maurice Mead and designer Sarah Kahn Turner suggested bumping out the rear wall of the house so that the sink run of cabinets could be recessed-thereby creating just  the amount of space needed. (see floor plan)

The existing windows and doors were adjusted. The 'bumped out' area is framed by cherry trim molding.

For symmetry, the living room rear wall was similarly bumped out just enough to create a window seat. (see exterior photo)
